How To Thrift Your Steampunk Outfit with Rebecca Heinrich & Laura Croff

Uncover the secrets of transforming ordinary garments into extraordinary steampunk masterpieces using creativity, resourcefulness, and a dash of Victorian-inspired ingenuity. From distressed leather jackets to vintage pocket watches, discover the hidden treasures waiting to be unearthed in the realm of steampunk thrifting. Join Rebecca and Laura as they share their expertise, tips, and tricks for achieving that distinctive steampunk flair without breaking the bank. Whether you're a seasoned steampunk enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this workshop promises to inspire and empower you to embrace your inner adventurer and fashion a one-of-a-kind steampunk creation that's as unique as you are.

Steampunk Bracer Workshop with Professor Cornelius S. Zowski
3:30 - 5:30 pm – The Black Box

Transform your imagination into reality and create an utterly outrageous Steampunk adornment. For the low, low cost of $15.00 (or $20.00 for battery-powered lights and a gauge) participants will design and construct their own preposterous Steampunk bracer under the direct tutelage of an internationally renowned Master of Tinkery and his ravishing and highly-skilled assistant. All of the materials and implements of construction will be provided. Some of his creations will be for sale at the workshop.

Professor Cornelius S. Zowski, aka, “Professor Corny”, is a professor at MIT, Michigan Institute of Tinkery, a subterranean professorate of absurdity and wonder. He has been instructing participants at Steampunk events on the finer points of tinkery for the past six years.

The Evolution of Steampunk with Cindy Spencer Pape & Glenn Pape.

Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or new to the world of Steampunk, this lecture offers a captivating journey through time and imagination, inviting you to explore the wonders of this captivating genre and its enduring appeal in the 21st century. Join us as we unravel the mysteries and marvels of The Evolution of Steampunk.

Make a Perfume for Your Steampunk Persona with Nyx Grabe
7 - 10 pm – The Black Box

Have you ever wished to be fragranced like a jaunty air pirate, a fearless world traveler, or an elegant arcane bookstore owner? Do you wish to create the scent of a smoky automaton, a dockside newsie, or the atmosphere of an exquisite Victorian salon? Or is your soul more inclined towards the steamy, Mary Shelley-penned Gothic horror? Nyx Grabe’s workshop will provide you with the tools you need in the form of a beautiful glass bottle and a tag with the name you give to your unique blend. With over 100 different perfume notes, ranging from simple naturals like rose and leather to sweet treats, motor oil, musks, a dark laboratory ozone, and campfire smoke, you will have the opportunity to experience and mix these elements into your one-of-a-kind blend. The entire experience is highly interactive and hands-on.

A 20oz. spray is $20, which can be paid for with cash onsite or via PayPal at nyxgrabe@gmail.com.  We recommend pre-paying for this workshop because seating is limited to 10 participants.

Nyx Grabe has been delivering lectures, workshops, and participating in film festivals at steampunk events for approximately 15 years. She has contributed her expertise in various locations, including Gaslight Gathering in San Diego, California; TeslaCon in Madison, Wisconsin; The International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio; Big River in Hannibal, Missouri; Steam Dream in Augusta, Michigan; The Motor City Expo in Detroit, Michigan; and Wild Wild West Con in Tucson, Arizona.

Games in the Gallery with Steampunk Santa
2 - 10 pm – Michael A. Palmer Gallery & Art 634 Back Gallery

Steampunk Santa will be onsite with a collection of Steampunk-themed board games available for you to play and learn. Spend a few minutes, or a few hours if you wish. Thematic games, including Dastardly Dirigibles and Steampunk Rally, will be available, as well as other appropriate Steampunk fun! Tom Pellitieri, AKA Steampunk Santa, will be on hand to answer questions and mentor players. Tom has provided the board game library for BashCon at the University of Toledo for over 10 years, run games at the Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, and will be in charge of gaming at the Chicago Steampunk Expo in April 2024.

Henna & Face Painting by The Facepaint Faerie - Sponsored by Art 634

Jamie Laakko aka The Facepaint Faerie, is a tenant artist at Art 634. With over a decade of experience in body art, she consistently offers her artistic services to a diverse range of festivals and corporate clients throughout Michigan. She will be onsite 2 - 10 pm in the Indoor Vending Market providing henna & jagua tattooing as well as face painting services.
BONUS – The Facepaint Faerie will be providing FREE Body Art Services, for the first two hours of the event (2 – 4 pm) courtesy of Art 634.

Matt Gwinn is a dedicated graphic designer and photographer, well acquainted with the realms of steampunk and cosplay.
